- Cognitive dysfunction due to degenerative (i.e. Alzheimer’s Disease) and chronic Cerebrovascular injuries in senile dementia
- Cerebral Insufficiency (i.e. dizziness, memory loss, poor concentration, disorientation) due to head trauma or brain injury
- Parkinson’s Disease

Citicoline is a pyrimidine 5’-nucleotide which serves as an essential precursor in the synthesis of lecithin (phosphatidylcholine) and other phospholipids. It’s molecular formula is C14H25N4O11P2.Na. It’s molecular weight is 510.31.
Citicoline has beneficial effects on neurological functions; it acts by increasing the synthesis of phosphatidylcholine, the primary neuronal phospholipid and enhancing the production of acetylcholine. Brain phospholipid synthesis is impaired following stroke and ischemic events. Oral citicoline adm...
Citicoline is a water-soluble compound with greater than 90% oral bioavailability. Oral doses of citicoline are rapidly absorbed. Following absorption, choline and cytidine are dispersed throughout the body, enter systemic circulation for utilization in various biosynthetic pathways and cross the bl...
Citicoline is metabolized in the gut wall and liver. The byproducts of exogenous citicoline formed by hydrolysis in the intestinal wall are choline and cytidine. The initial peak in plasma concentration is followed by a sharp decline, which then slows over the next 4 to 10 hrs. In the second phase, ...
Hypersensitivity to Citicoline or to any of the components of Citicoshin.
Citicoline may cause hypotension and in case necessary, the hypotensive effect can be treated with corticosteroids or sympathomimetics. Citicoline should be used with caution in patients with a history of convulsion, suicidal tendencies, hepatic or renal impairment. There is inadequate evidence of s...
Citicoline is generally well-tolerated. Few adverse effects are gastrointestinal disturbances, dizziness and fatigue, rash, insomnia, nausea, dizziness, convulsions, anorexia, shock, transient blood pressure changes.
In combination with levodopa, citicoline can increase the effects of levodopa.
Citicoline must not be used with medicines containing meclophenoxate (or centrophenoxine).
